Frequently Asked Questions
Counselling or therapy?
The words 'counselling' & 'therapy' are considered the same so are interchangeable. I use them both equally.
Why should I choose you to be my counsellor?
When choosing a therapist it is important to look for two things:
- They are registered with a recognised professional body such as The British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)
Visit the BACP Register where you can verify my status (Caroline Harland Registration Number 382458)
- A recognised qualification from a reputable institution
I hold a BA (Hons) in Person-Centred counselling as well as a Diploma in Person-Centred counselling accredited by the BACP from the highly regarded Middlesex University. These qualifications are in conjunction with The Metanoia Institute who specialise exclusively in counselling & psychotherapy training.
Creating a trusting therapeutic relationship that is right for you is also absolutely key so that's why I offer 50% off our first session so we can make sure we're a good fit together.
How much does it cost?
It is £50 per online/telephone session, payable securely via PayPal in advance online.
It is £60 per in-person session, payable securely via PayPal in advance online (once I am safely able to offer in-person sessions from Shoreditch, E1 in London)
I do offer some student & concession rates.
Please email me to confirm if I have current availability.
How many sessions do I need?
Although there is no minimum or maximum, often 10-20 weekly sessions can be particularly beneficial.
While some clients continue for years, others feel ready to stop after 6 sessions.
It's a personal choice & something we can discuss together.
What if you can't help me?
Perhaps you're considering therapy with issues that feel very painful or challenging. It may feel hard yet it's a step towards helping yourself and getting the support you need.
I offer your first session half price with no obligation to continue.
Rest assured that I will only suggest we are able to continue working together if we feel we are a good fit together and that I can work ethically to a high, professional standard.
If for any reason, this is not the case, I will endeavour to signpost you to more helpful support for your needs.

Where do sessions take place?
Currently, ALL sessions are online via Zoom or the telephone. You can be based anywhere in the UK for our sessions.
I will be returning to in-person sessions when safe to do so in Shoreditch E1, London.
